Overlaps Along The Harbour

Starting with the edge of the harbour, we walked the stretch of the stone wall. Observing the life that occurs in this ever-changing environment and grasping the expanse of the site and how life unfolds on it. Upon deepening our focus on the marine life inhabiting the crevices and the stones in this intertidal zone, the question is, how do marine animals make homes with the transforming landscape and tides?
Focusing on this particular area and how it constructs the landscape of every day, we realized that there was a temporality to this life, influenced by the ebb and flow of tides.
Upon further analysis, we noticed that the temporality extended beyond the waves and marine life to the human routine, economy, and movement of boats, fish, fishermen, trucks, birds etc. Humans and various other entities engage with geography differently as the tide continues to change its conditions.

The first impression of the harbour is created by its active and restless scene. We encountered an overlap of various programs, densified with humans, birds, fish, boats, vehicles and numerous other entities.

As we continued the walk, the harsh sunlight and hot climate forced us to move along the sparsely shaded areas leading us to a cluster of shacks, as the harbour had a severe lack of shaded spaces. These shacks are primarily run by women, unlike the male-dominated harbour.

Right beside this group of shacks, outside the harbour gate, was an ongoing strike. It targeted the toll prices implicated on the vehicles entering the harbour to transport the collected fish.

Development on the harbour takes shape through recent construction projects. The new harbour, public toilet, drainage system, compound wall and harbour road, are a few to name.
